China's shares lead gains across the Asian region

Following positive remarks by President Xi Jinping about the economy's economic prospects and continuing growth, Chinese shares led gains across Asia's stock markets. It was reported by state media reported that Mr Xi said China would do all it could to preserve annual growth rates of around 7 per cent over the next five years.

South Korea stumbles as China's growth weakens

By the second quarter of the year, South Korea, Asia's fourth largest economy, posted a current account surplus of $52.4 billion. This was an uplift of 33 per cent year on year, driven by a subsidence in energy imports. South Korea had already put in place policy measures to guard again US Federal Reserve rate hikes and did not foresee an abrupt shock to our economy should this have gone ahead.

Fund management sector spurs Singapore economy to 1.8% growth in Q2

The strongest performer in the Singaporean economy was the finance and insurance industry, which expanded 7.1 per cent after growing 7.8 per cent in the preceding three months. This was due in large part to a strong showing in the fund management sector. The Singapore economy is now expected to grow between 2 and 2.5 per cent this year.
